Totally Useless Tidbit
Americans consumed over 3.1 billion pounds of chocolate in 2001, which is almost half of the total world's production. And in the United States, approximately seven billion pounds of chocolate and candy are manufactured each year.
DAMN!!!!

No Impact Man is trying to lower his ecological footprint, and came up with a great list of washing items that can be found right in your home. I think I’ll give it a go (once, mind you) and try his tip on using Baking Soda + Water as Shampoo, as an experiment, instead of using regular shampoo that has a ton of perfume, chemicals and junk that pollutes our water system.
But if you’re nervous about it, WikiHow posts about how to wash your hair without shampoo, and apparently Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon Juice works wonders! And the caution is to not do it TOO often because apparently Baking Soda can dry out your hair. So Farmlet cautions that if you have oily hair, do it once every other day or so – which is what I’m going to try.
As for the rising price of gas, it’s high enough!! exclaims Linsey Knerl of Wise Bread. And while I don’t drive, I agree – because it affects the cost of my public transportation and my train tickets, which is kind of f*cked up because I’m actually HELPING the environment by carpooling, using public transportation and the train – yet I’m getting screwed (albeit slightly) by doing so. What do y’all think? Maybe the government should give me a real subsidy or a break on the cost of the tickets to make public transportation more appealing than taking a car and bitching about the price of gas.
Speaking of traveling, Leanna of Apples and Telephones does a pretty good rant about Air Canada’s flight booking practices, complete with screenshots (yesss!!!). For me, my experience with Air Canada is: if you’re given a supposed discount code, check how much it is WITHOUT the discount code, and how much it is WITH the code, because I found a $200 difference for the exact same slights… and it wasn’t a discount – it was a ripoff surcharge. It was cheaper to book the flight without that stupid code. Idiots. Do they think we’re stupid / made of money?
And if you walk as much as I do, but want to look summer cute, SheFinds posts about a shoe stretching solution and device that seems to have people enthused about not having to squeeze their feet into new shoes and break ‘em in, like what I had to do…
On the makeup front, G.G. from The Glam Guide posts about the gorgeous collection of Mac Fafi Makeup line that just came out. Oh, and if you leave a comment in her post by APRIL 29th 2008, you could win a sample of the makeup!!!!
And for some pretty candid comments about juicy celebrities, head over to ent lawyer’s post about Random Photos Part 1…Random celebrity photos that is. I especially agree with the comment about Nicole Kidman. Sheesh! And by the same blogger, read this unbelievable tax story....>!
Oh and straight from the Beauty Brains mouth, don’t fret so much about sagging facial skin because it’s caused by your skull growing as you age….! Read their post for more interesting TRUE / FALSE pieces.
You may not always like what V has to say, but I found her post entitled Curlys and Straights to be a good reflection on the phrase “the grass always seems greener on the other side”….. I really enjoyed it.
And the Japanese are into something called chindogu, which is the practice of turning everyday objects into new gadgets, and some of them are pretty interesting posted by List of the Day

8 Leave me some love...:
I love the tidbit... that's a helluva lot of chocolate! Haha!
Thanks for the link love! I really wish I had the balls to call Air Canada up directly and ask them - maybe i'd get something free!
Let me know how the no shampoo wash goes. I'm going to try Lush shampoo bars...
Elisabeth: It is isn't it!? I think I'm responsible for at least 10% of that LOL
Leanna: NP.. if only it worked like that eh
SavingDiva: I'll try it on the weekend... when it's just BF :P so I don't annoy ppl
DANG! I want to try washing my hair with vinegar but I'm scared! Hmmm...maybe right before my next salon visit just in case it turns red or smells like butt or something. Great links!
Caught: It would just be vinegary or baking soda ish :)
Actually a Chindogu is suppodes to be a theoretically ueable but actually useless invention.
And I have often used vinegar+water as a hair rinse after a shampoo, it restores that haird acidic mantle that is destroyed by basic soaps and shampoos.
eternal: Maybe I'll do that rinse instead.. like a clarifying rinse instead of washing my hair with it
